Area 1 Salt Lake City
It has been awhile since I have posted here and I have been busy over the last couple of weeks. It started off the middle of last week where I had a mid-week Black Badge course for three fireman. The course went well and I even had a couple of people make it out for the mini match, Thanks Richard and Ray.
Then we had qualifiers 11 and 12 in Brooks. What a great match to kick off the outdoor season. We had 2 new match directors in Stacy and Jon and they did a fantastic job on stage design. They of course had a few little hiccups but nothing that wasn’t easily fixable. Look for more stage designs from these 2.
Then as soon as that match was done it was time to head to Salt Lake City for the area 1 match. The first hiccup was that my traveling companions had to cancel out at 10 am Monday morning as they checked and saw their form6s had expired. That meant that all of a sudden from a leisurely morning I had to get my truck ready to go. Since I had everything just about packed it wasn’t to hard and I got out of the house and onto the road by noon and made it to Idaho Falls the first day. The motel 6 in Idaho Falls is pretty basic but it is clean and economical so it is a good place to spend the night. I even made it in time to hit Dave’s Famous Barbeque which is always a favorite. Burnt ends and a Moose Drawl is a great way to end the day.
The drive the next day to Salt Lake city was pretty easy and I was at the Hotel by noon and found out I couldn’t check in till 3. So I went out to the range to check it out and my stage. Well this year I got a nice easy stage 8 paper targets. No Farley contraption to deal with this yea! Yea!! Carl Schmidt (Range Master) along with Evans Kuo (assistant Range Master.) Then Jodi Humann (assistant Range Master) showed up. So I spent a little time with them walking the range and tuning a few stages. It is always interesting watching how other Range Masters do things as well as refining my USPSA range rules.
Wednesday was staff shoot day and I ended up being squaded with Manny Bragg along with Chris and Paul who had worked with me last year. We also had Robin Cook and his wife Ande with us from Cody Wyoming (which is not a bad drive from southern Alberta and they hold monthly matches.) The squad was rounded it out with Roger and Carey who are local. Shooting with a squad of ROs is always fun and we were moving. We ended up shooting all 16 stages in one day, which turned out to be good for me since it turns out my bay wasn’t being used Thursday afternoon which means I have the day off.
